we are installing a brand new system, but we are facing a VERY strange error:

There is a log file of the lsnrctl utility, here it is:

For the moment I need to take some backups for a SAP system, however, I got the following questions:

- If I want to use DBACOCKPIT (DB13), Can I backup the files to disk? When schedulling I only got Device Type = Tape (R3DUMP0,1,2), I got the same problem with DB Logs.

- Do I need to backup also the other databases: MASTER, MSDB, TEMPDB, Model?

We are in the process of upgrading our BW Java 7.01 to 731/EHP1/SPS9, using SUM 1/SP8. This is a Split landscape, so the ABAP and the Java are running separately. We have been reading various documents and talking with other folks and some says that we should upgrade the Java with the additional application server in place and the upgrade will take care of the application server as well.

Other say that we should un-install the Dialog instances before we enter the Downtime phase and then Re-install the application server after the upgrade.

Yet to find a clear document from SAP on this. Any idea/suggestion?

Our CI is on Solaris Sparc and the DIs are on X86.

I am facing a problem in visual admin tool.

First I would like to explain the scenario :

In portal system I forgot the ADMINISTRATOR user password. I follow the steps for to change the password as I logon using sap* in portal and change the password of this user then in config toll I change the password for Admin\Passowrd\Systemid\ in secure store.

Hi all SAP experts,

I have so far configured LDAP (T code LDAP) involving CUA server and connected to the MS Active directory. The issue I am facing is whenever I exit and re-enter the T code LDAP, I found the LDAP server in off position (red color status). I have to start it every time by choosing the LDAP server and clicking on Log On tab, use system user and finally start the LDAP server. I am using SAP Solution Manager 7.1 as the CUA/LDAP server.

I now need to execute the RSLDAPSYNC_USER ABAP report in SE38. I think that I need the LDAP server to be in ON (green color) status on permanent basis, else the user synchronization might not be correctly executed. The entries are all correct and LDAP server starts when I start it. I need to keep it in a state of continuous start status. RFC is also working fine and I have all relevant SAP notes. I am not doing the schema extension now as its irreversible and not  favored by my client at the moment. Kindly advice me what I need to do here. I really need real time professional advice and help.

I'm trying to install JAVA add-on alongside ABAP stack in the same machine (Dual-Stack).

The SCS instance and DB instance installation of JAVA add-on went fine. However, now I'm stuck at step 4 of 18 - 'Create Java users'. It is basically complaining about SAPJSF user. I can create the uiser manually and can skip tyhis step, though not sure if I will miss creation of other users viz. ADSUSER, J"EE_ADMIN etc.

I have attached the log files below.

Any help pointers are much appreciated.

I have used ctrl + F9 but I have to scroll page up/down to select multiple items and SCC1 is locked.

We are needing to send an XML file from SAP to an external system in UTF-8 format. The ABAP code we are currently using works correctly as long as there are no special characters or accent marks within the XML content. However, whenever the XML file contains a special character or accented character (such as an e-acute, é), then the receiving system returns to us an error saying that they were unable to parse the file successfully. Therefore, we think that perhaps the file is not actually being sent in UTF-8 format, even though we specify in the XML header that 'encoding="UTF-8" ' and we set a header field of 'Content-Type=text/xml; charset=utf-8'.

Here is a description of what we are currently doing in our ABAP function module:

We first concatenate all of the XML into a variable of type STRING (named p_xml_out below). Then we create the HTTP client, set several header fields (including Content-Type=text/xml; charset=utf-8), call the method SET_CDATA to prepare to send the STRING of data, and finally call the method to SEND the data.

When we realized that we were receiving the Parse error message back from the external system, we then tried an alternative approach of converting the STRING to type XSTRING and specifying that the encoding should be 'UTF-8'. Then we used method SET_DATA (instead of SET_CDATA) before calling the SEND method.

However, this code results in the exact same Parse error. We are afraid that somehow, SAP is not sending the XML data in UTF-8 encoding because the receiving system seems to have a problem with the encoding of the file we are sending.

I am pasting below the two different coding approaches that we have tried.  I also have a Word document which shows screen prints of the file we are sending and the error message response we are getting back, if anyone is interested in seeing that documentation.

We need help in knowing if there is some kind of setting somewhere that may be altering the encoding of the file, or if our ABAP logic is incorrect, etc.

I would like to create a global display variant in ST03N but when I save the variant the "User-specific" check box is checked and grayed out so I can not make it a global variant.

I believe this could be a security authorization, but my security folks are not able to find a solution.

I have checked the forums and OSS notes but I am not able to find a solution.
